Community Employment Services

Placement staff is available within the Employment Service group to assist individuals in finding jobs within the community. Our placement staff offers the following services, as appropriate for each individual.

Job Development/Placement:

Our placement staff is active in developing relationships with community employers. Our business contacts are varied and include manufacturers, restaurants, offices, retail stores, health clubs, animal shelters, and many others. Placement staff is also working one on one with participants to coach them in interviewing skills, answering difficult questions, completing applications, and writing resumes and cover letters. Individuals are given help in identifying their own job leads. When appropriate, the placement staff will assist participants with transportation or may actually attend the interview.

Job-Site Training/Job Coaching:

Employment Service staff is available to provide job coaching. This is a highly individualized service. For some, this may mean spending considerable time with an individual learning a new job. At other times the focus may be in spending time at the work site to help a worker adjust to the social aspects and demands of a new job. The job coach may meet with someone during lunch or before or after work in a case where a supervisor is not open to a job coach or an individual is concerned about confidentiality. The time is used to discuss work situations and work on problem solving as situations come up.

Job Supports/Supportive Employment

Once an individual has successfully learned a job and adjusted to the setting, continued support may still be helpful. CEA staff are available to give ongoing support at the job site for as long as a need is seen. A job coach can stop in and provide help to keep skills to the level needed, discuss any problems that have come up, or be available by phone if an urgent concern arises. Services are highly individualized.
