Building Maintenance
Richard Pfleger - Assistant Training Director
Building Maintenance is a large part of our program here at Spring Run School. Anywhere between two and five students participate daily, the students are paid for two hours of work per day. A student must be in good standing behaviorally in order to be accepted into the program. Student workers clean bathrooms, mop floors, take out trash, and generally perform all functions that are typically the responsibility of a cleaning company.Our students take pride in their work and do an excellent job.These same students are responsible for the clean building you see here today.
Food Service
Louis Lozada - Training Director
The Food Service program is a state approved re-training course that prepares the students in acquiring hands-on, practical experience in a cafeteria setting.Food Service is an open operation that entails all aspects of an actual restaurant environment.The students are involved in the following activities:
- Food preparation
- Cooking, grilling, sautéing, deep-frying
- Creating sandwiches
- Preparing, baking, and designing desserts
- Serving meals
- Bussing tables and washing dishes
- Ordering, receiving & verifying orders
Introduction to Building Trades (IBT)
William Bernard - Training Director
Introduction to Building Trades (IBT) is a part of the transitional/vocational program here at SpringRunSchool.The purpose of IBT is to teach students valuable work skills in the area of general construction.Under the direction and supervision of Mr. Bernard, many students have acquired skills such as:painting, spackling, sanding, stripping and waxing floors, installing flooring tiles, installing ceiling tiles and general maintenance of light fixtures.SRS students have learned how to read blueprints, measure and cut wood, assemble, sand, glue, finish and stain wood projects.To date, our students have built shelving units, radiator covers, laminate paneling for walls, bulletin boards, storage bins, tool boxes, picnic tables and benches, desks, and kitchen counter tops.Introduction to Building Trades is an extremely important program here as it will prepare and assist our students to obtain jobs after graduation.
Office Technologies
Adele Lambert - Training Director
In the Office Technologies program, a state-approved re-training program, the students learn the computer concepts for the different programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) or MS Office.The emphasis is on learning the concepts of each program.This is a self-paced course and the students work at their own rate of speed.The students learn the following:
- Proper letter setup
- Various report setups
- Proofreading
- Prepare for an office position
- Appropriate & effective use of E-mail & Internet services
Packaging and Assembly

In the Packaging Program students experience real job situations.The training is tailored to the abilities of the student.We address appropriate work behaviors and attitudes to improve their work ethic.Once the student’s strengths and needs are assessed, we develop appropriate techniques to improve their work skills.This allows them to become capable and confident workers.The program offers work experiences in:
- General assembly
- Packaging
- Re-packaging
- CollatingLabeling
- Sealing
- Inspecting
- Assembly line work
- Material handling
