THE 2008, DAY IN THE LIFE PROGRAM
ON THURSDAY MAY 15, 2008 AT THE
CENTER FOR EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENT
WHAT IS IT?
-          The Day in the Life program is designed for interested members of the public to learn about the employment, transitional and educational programs at the Center for Educational Advancement (CEA) and Spring Run School (SRS), located in Flemington, NJ.
-          The program is a half-day event, from 8:30am -12:30pm, during which each participant is teamed up with a CEA employee or SRS student. Following a brief introduction/breakfast period each team of two will work together until late morning. A group lunch at the CEA cafeteria follows, with participants and their partners sharing stories with each other.
-          Program participants will learn about the various capabilities of their partners, and the programs that help CEA fulfill its mission to Empower people with special needs through Education and Employment. Work opportunities can include: academic instruction, art/music/gym/computer class, assembly line (various), off-site job sampling at a local business, cafeteria meal preparation, Quality Control-Packaging & Assembly standards, transportation to/from various job sites, hand assembly/collation of contract packaging materials etc. (The daily task for the student/employee will be the determining factor.)
THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO:
-          Increase public awareness of the Evaluation, Training and Job Placement programs of CEA.
-          Highlight the Academic, Elective and Transition to Work programs available to students at Spring Run School.
-          Heighten community awareness of our not-for-profit Social Services organization. We constantly encourage interested persons in the community to learn about and participate in our programs. We regularly seek new businesses to join our group of work experience sites, business and individual event and facility sponsors and Board members. Many of our supporters first learn about us through programs like this.
-          Help reduce the number of unemployed special needs individuals. Although many people have a “disability”, many are also able to use their “Abilities” to be active and productive members of their community.
